Soil Ammendments

Since plants are mostly underground creatures, one of the most important things we can do to promote their health is to improve the soil they grow in. Most often, this involves the application of compost to a depth of half an inch, which is decomposed plant material without any animal waste. We rake this into grass until it cannot be seen, and spread it evenly throughout garden beds over as much of the yard as possible. Compost application can fix nutrient deficiencies, inoculate soil with beneficial microorganisms, improve soil pH, and increase water holding capacity.
